REMEMBERING PAUL
NEWMAN
SEPTEMBER 28, 2008, Studio City, CA - All of us at
CaroleKing.com are deeply saddened by the loss of Paul Newman (January 26, 1925
September 26, 2008). His passing took from the world a talented actor, a
visionary entrepreneur, a generous spirit, a loving family man, and a dear
friend.
Carole King had her first professional encounter with Newman when she wrote and
recorded the title song for the 1972 film, "Pocket Money," starring
Paul Newman and Lee Marvin, written by John Gay and Terrence Malick from the
novel, Jim Kane, by J.P.S. Brown, and directed by Stuart Rosenberg.
In 1988, Newman founded the first Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a residential
summer camp specifically designed to serve children with serious illnesses. Over
the past twenty years, the original camp in Ashford, Connecticut, has expanded
to become several camps in the US, Ireland, France and Israel. The camps
currently serve 13,000 children every year, at no cost to them or their
families.
Nearly every year the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford has hosted a
star-studded Gala, which includes performances from the campers and some of
Newman's friends with famous names and kind hearts. Carole has been a frequent
performer at these events. "I never hesitated to accept the
invitation," says Carole. "It was an honor to be asked. I learned so
much about life and performing from the campers. And Newman was so generous in
putting himself in whatever ridiculous situation had been written for him that
year by his friend, A.E. Hotchner. The Galas raised money, made the children
laugh and helped them feel comfortable with the celebrities, each other, and
most important of all, with themselves. I don't think I will ever be able to
fully convey how blessed I feel to have taken part in those shows."
When asked to comment about Newman, Carole said, "The world is a better
place because of Paul Newman. He has left us an incredible legacy on film and in
life. May the memory of this good man continue to inspire all of us."
We at CaroleKing.com send our love, prayers, and sympathy to everyone who has
been touched and inspired by Paul Newman. We send deepest condolences to his
friends and family, especially to his wife, Joanne Woodward, and to Newman's
friend (and Carole's), A.E. Hotchner.
Rest in peace.

THOUGHTS ON MONEY
[coming soon: Your Money or Your Life! a blog]
Co-Founders of Unity: Myrtle and Charles Fillmore shared
these
thoughts in response to the Great Depression-October, 1929
"The conditions in our world today, " asserted Myrtle Fillmore,
"are what
man
in his greed, selfishness, ignorance, has
made. ... The thing to do in times like
we
have been having, is to remain positive, and not let any
negative, outer thought
sink
in, but let it slide off like water on a duck's back. It is not
time to fall into the current
of
race thought, but to hold fast to the principles of Truth that are bound to
demonstrate abundance of good. ...
The question is, what are your true values?
... Begin to consider what you can do
to
inspire and help others, rather than on money-making."
[Torch
Bearer To Light The Way by Neal Vahle p77-78]
"Money is to be used, not abused." said Charles Fillmore, ... Money
accumulated
for a definitely constructive purpose is quite different thing from money
hoarded
with
the fearful thought of a 'rainy day'
or a prolonged season of lack and suffering,
Money
saved for a 'rainy day' is always used for just that, for fear attracts
that
which
is feared unfailingly. "The thing which I
feared comes upon me." [JOB
3:25]
[PROSPERITY
by Charles Fillmore P 165]
"We have nothing to fear, but
fear itself." [Franklin
D. Roosevelt, U.S.A. President]
