What IS Prayer?
"When you pray, enter into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, Who is unseen. Then your Father, Who sees what is done in secret , will reward you. ... your Father knows what you need before you ask." said Jesus the Christ. [MATTHEW 6: 6-8] "It is difficult to improve upon this simple method (of prayer). Quietly entering the inner chamber within the soul, shutting the door to the external thoughts of daily life, and seeking conscious union with God is the highest form of prayer we know. ... The purpose of The Silence is to still the activity of the individual thought so that the still small voice of God may be heard. For in The Silence Spirit speaks Truth to us, and just that Truth of which we stand in need." [Charles and Cora Fillmore in Teach Us to Pray p 17]
"Through faith, we see our good as something real, tangible, substantial, and already ours. ... When you pray, believe wholeheartedly that the glorious promise is fulfilled unto you. There is nothing like the exercise of the spiritual faith that sees prayer already answered, to bring results quickly." [said Myrtle Fillmore, Co-Founder of Unity in Torch Bearer to Light the Way p 68 by Neal Vaehle]
Prayer is an awareness of the Presence of God as a Higher Power in our lives. This Power knows our needs before we ask. The only "prayer" we need say in our heart is "Thank You, God!" [Reverend Sandra Rae Hymel]
Are you aware that the most “important” consciousness in praying for others is your own? Many people think that the person who is challenged by life must be transformed and in a sense this is true, but when you open yourself to be of service through prayer, it is your consciousness that must first be uplifted. The reason this is so is
that Spirit needs an avenue through which to do its work. If your
consciousness is focused on the person or the problem, there is no avenue.
It is like a candle without a wick—much potential, but little light.
Therefore, when you give yourself to prayer for other people, give attention to
God and not the problem or person. Don’t treat the other person. Allow
yourself to be “treated” and in this way, you can be of service in prayer. "The LOST MODE OF PRAYER is based solely on FEELING. Specifically, it invites us to FEEL as if our prayer has already been answered, rather than feeling powerless and needing to ask for help from a higher source. In recent years, studies have shown that it is this very quality of feeling that does, in fact, "speak" to the field that connects us with the world. Through prayers of feeling, we are empowered to take part in the healing of our lives and our relationships, as well as our bodies and our world." [from Secrets of the
Lost Mode of Prayer p 22, by Gregg Braden] |
