Poetry of Priscilla (Petie) Saunders

WHERE IS LOVE?

                     Some ask: “Where is Love?”

Love is in the clapping of thunder

And in the playful darting of lightening.

Love is in the eruption of a volcano

And in the soothing flames of a campfire.

Love is in the mighty torrent

And in the gentle falling rain.

Love is in the deafening roar of the ocean

And in the music of a bubbling brook.

Love is in the musky smell of the awakening earth in spring

And in the sweet fragrance of lilacs in bloom.

Love is the gnarly bramble bush.

                           And in the majestic redwoods.

Love is the bleating of a calf for her mother

And the nuzzling of noses when found.

Love is the cawing of  crows

And the flight of the hummingbird.

Love is the howling of wolves

And the exuberance of a pet greeting her family.

Love is the lonesome cry in the dark of night

And the light that comes in the morning.

Love is in the pain of childbirth

And in the holding of new life.

Love is the harsh words of emotion

And in the gentle touch of a loved one’s hand.

Love is seeing the laughter in another’s eye

And beholding the joy within your own.

Love is in the celebration of our humanity

While being in awe of our divinity.

                      Love is in the galaxies

                             And love abides within you.

                    Some ask: “Where is Love?”

I say: “Where is there not Love?”

once upon a dawn-lit morn

I'd chanced upon a dewdrop

a single sparkle of spectral light

perched silent midst flower petals

• • •

tranquil in contemplation of such splendor

diminutive dewdrop had become vast ocean

miniscule rapture found in dewdrop-symmetry

thus contained the grandeur of vast ocean-infinity

• • •

charmed in meditation on this lustrous wonder

tiny liquid-mirror glistening in new-day-sun

trickled so delicately to greet its floral host

I saw ocean merging with distant shore

• • •

fascination of this rainbowed droplet

conjured inspirations of its divinity

suspended within my dome of dew

was enclosed the purest essence

of

every

surge

in

every

ocean
